MEDICAL TOURISM IN MEXICO

Health care system in Mexico is represented by state and private medical centers. At present, medical industry in Mexico is going through a restructuring process in order to increase the level of standards in medical centers. This process is intended for obtaining international certification. The country has two cards up its sleeve: extremely affordable prices for medical services in many fields, as well as highly proficient English-speaking staff offering clients a full range of medical services.

Owing to favorable geographical position and medical specialization, the most visited medical tourism destinations are: Monterrey, Nuevo León; Tijuana, Baja California; Hermosillo, Sonora; Chihuahua, Chihuahua’ Torreon, Coahuila; Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

During winter, spring and summer seasons of 2015 this country received over 144 thousand overseas patients wishing to improve their health or enhance their appearance, and this is by 25% more than within the same period in 2014. In 2016 Mexico is expecting to receive no less than 175 thousand medical tourists. Notably, a week of treatment of one medical tourist brings in the average of 13,000 USD to the Mexican budget. Such trip will be twice as cheap for patients from the neighboring USA and Canada than on the territory of their resident country. It is chiefly the citizens of the mentioned countries which visit their southern neighbor for performing complex health checkup, dental services, or cardio-vascular surgeries. Also, plastic surgery is gaining still higher popularity, not surprisingly for the countries of Latin America. Within the last two years, private clinics of reproductive medicine have appeared in Mexico. These clinics are also emerging on the international market offering high quality medical services at cost-effective prices for IVF.
